Chianti
A classic Tuscan red made from Sangiovese, Piantaferro Chianti 2019 showcases the fresh, food-friendly style typical of the Chianti region. Medium-bodied with lively acidity and structured tannins, it highlights the bright red-fruit character and savory complexity that define traditional Chianti wines.
Winemaking process
The wine is produced from Sangiovese grapes grown across several Chianti subregions. Fermentation occurs at controlled temperatures around 24–26 °C with daily pump-overs during a 4–6 day maceration, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine is typically aged in cement vats to maintain freshness and preserve the purity of fruit.
Tasting notes
The wine displays a deep ruby color with garnet reflections as it matures. Aromas of cherry, raspberry, and red fruit are layered with hints of tea, herbs, and black pepper spice, while the palate offers vibrant acidity, structured tannins, and subtle earthy and mineral notes leading to a dry, persistent finish with a slight saline touch.
Food pairings
This versatile Chianti pairs naturally with traditional Italian cuisine and savory dishes. It works particularly well with pasta in tomato-based sauces, pizza, grilled red meats, cured meats, and rustic dishes such as burgers or roasted game, where the wine’s acidity balances rich flavors.
