Baroni Capoano
View winesAbove Cirò Marina, in the heartland of Cirò DOC, Baroni Capoano sits where an old family domus meets working vineyards.
Their modern bottling story begins in 1997, when the family started bottling the “nectar” kept by tradition, and in 2005 the next generation (Massimiliano Capoano) pushed the estate forward while keeping its family character intact.
Location
The estate rises on the hills above the Ionian-facing province of Crotone, where sea, hills, and mountains sit close together—one of Calabria’s defining contrasts.
They describe a temperate climate and well-draining, mineral-rich soils that lend freshness and a pronounced fruit character, shaped by Mediterranean food culture and local olive oil traditions.
Winemaking & Philosophy
Cirò, here, is anchored in native grapes—especially Gaglioppo (red) and Greco Bianco (white)—varieties they present as the backbone of the denomination’s identity and aging potential.
The style is territory-first: keep the wines direct, rooted, and unmistakably Calabrian—built from what the hills naturally give rather than manufactured in the cellar.
